I’m a graduate of the Military Photojournalism Program at Syracuse University; thru which I earned the distinction of being the first African American female combat photojournalist in Air Force history.

It is one of my proudest accomplishments.

I have won numerous accolades, of note is the 1998 Military Photographer of the Year: 1st Place Illustration category award. I’m still stoked about that!

My military photographs have been featured in national and international military and civilian publications as well as books such as “This Is Our War: A Soldiers’ Portfolio: Servicemen’s Photographs of Life in Iraq” by Devin Friedman and the Editors of GQ.

However, when I retired, I thought I had fallen out of love with photography. I spent the last 7 or 8 years of my career managing and training photographers, videographers, and graphic designers.  I thoroughly loved it, but I felt like the thrill was gone because I was no longer behind the camera daily.

So, I went to grad school to figure out what I wanted to be when I grow up. I learned web design, technical writing, and marketing communication.

I have always described myself as a right-brain creative with left-brain tendencies, so this program was a perfect fit for me. Before I knew it, bam! the flame in me was reignited.

In 2010, I launched Simply Zee Imagery.

These new skills coupled with my 30+ years in photography gave me the ability to help my clients define and build their brands.

My images are now found on client websites, social media platforms, and in books and magazines like “Usability Testing Essentials: Ready, Set…Test!” by Carol M. Barnum, “Mantra Yoga + Health Magazine” Issue 19, and most recently in “Epically Awesome: How to Embrace Your Authentic Self” by Rookamah Goldston.
